Street lights lit the backdrop to the photo in my mind
while the spinning of a turntable recoils and unwinds
to the whispers on my pillow bouncing off my window pane
where the raindrops tap the rhythm but the melody remains

Behind a sweeping city skyline we light up to dull the ache
of living with the decay that's been rotting through the days
and in a dying city daydream we wake up to the rain
and the filth of a sickness that cannot be washed away

Somewhere someone told me if you're grateful then you'll pray
But I can't pray for greatness in a world where greed remains
